Common Retina Diseases
Retina Diseases
Diseases of the retina fall into many different categories including trauma, inflammation, inherited, degenerative, tumours and relation to systemic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
Each of them have their own characteristic findings and forms of treatment.
Macular degeneration has two basic forms — wet and dry — with both affecting the ability to clearly see fine details.
A torn or detached retina is a serious condition that can lead to total blindness in the affected eye. Diabetic retinopathy, as its name implies, is related to damage to a patient's retina related to the person's duration and severity of diabetes.
There are a variety of other retinal problems, which each have their own distinct impacts on vision — and requirements for specific forms of treatment. These include Central Serous Retinopathy (CSR), Vascular Occlusions, Ocular Tumours, Macular Holes, Uveitis Inflammation and Epiretinal Membranes.
