Electrophysiological Tests

These tests, also carried out in the ophthalmology department of the Royal Alexandra Hospital, provide Dr. Uniat with two types of readings.

An ERG (electroretinogram) records the combined electrical activity of different cells within the retina. This is a similar type of analysis to an ECG (electrocardiogram), which many people have had to diagnose heart disease. The ERG shows the effects of the eye of different diseases.

An EOG (electrooculogram) is another electrical activity test, which provides a better understanding — a measurement - of retinal malfunction. Deviations from normal can be caused by various retinal disorders.
